Pre-Charge and Coolant Top-Up Guide
"Heavy-Duty Diesel Generator Set Coolant" is specified as a 50% antifreeze - 50% water mixture, pre-charged with 0.4 units per liter of DCA4. Use the pre-charge chart to determine the required "dose" of DCA4 to create the Heavy-Duty Generator Set Coolant mixture, or add 1 liter of DCA4 (10 units) per 25 liters of coolant. Both methods will achieve a concentration level of at least 0.4 units per liter. Additionally, a maintenance filter (selected according to the maintenance chart) must be added to ensure a minimum initial start-up concentration of 0.5 units per liter.
All coolant added to the diesel generator set must be "Heavy-Duty Diesel Generator Set Coolant" to maintain the correct balance of antifreeze, water, and DCA4. Never add coolant that has not been pre-charged with DCA4*. When filling a new generator set with coolant or replacing the coolant, the cooling system must be pre-charged with "Heavy-Duty Diesel Generator Set Coolant".
Coolant lost due to leakage, repair, or overflow must also be replaced with Heavy-Duty Diesel Generator Set Coolant. Most cavitation issues are caused by adding untreated coolant, which quickly dilutes the DCA4 concentration and reduces cylinder liner protection.
Maintenance Guide
This maintenance coolant filter must be replaced every time the engine oil is changed. The amount of DCA4 specified in the maintenance chart will cause the concentration to increase over time, which is expected and normal. Replenish lost coolant with Heavy-Duty Diesel Generator Set Coolant. The pre-charge chart determines the amount of DCA4 to add to water and antifreeze to provide a minimum 0.4 units per liter (4% by volume) concentration of Heavy-Duty Diesel Generator Set Coolant. The maintenance chart determines the amount of DCA4 that must be added with each oil change.
If concentration exceeds 0.8 units/liter:
● No DCA4 filter or liquid DCA4 addition is required until the concentration drops below 0.8 units/liter.
● Concentration must be tested at each subsequent oil change until the level drops below 0.8 units/liter.
If concentration is between 0.3 and 0.8 units/liter:
● Add the normal amount of DCA4 as specified in the maintenance chart. Concentration is within the normal range.
If concentration is below 0.3 units/liter:
● Add the normal amount of DCA4 as specified in the maintenance chart and pre-charge chart. This pre-charge operation will raise the concentration into the normal range.
